Facebook Now Most Popular Site in the US According to Recent Report
It seems that Facebook’s growth is far from slowing down anytime soon. In the United States alone, the social network is driving impressive web traffic numbers. A recent report from Hitwise Intelligence indicates that Facebook.com generates close to 1 out of every 4 webpage views in the US or equal to 10% of all website visits in the country. The social media giant even outranked Google.com, which currently enjoys a 7% share in Internet visits.
The report only confirms Hitwise’s earlier prediction that at the rate Facebook was performing in the first half of the year, they were bound to eclipse Google’s web traffic.
Going by the intelligence service’s findings, Facebook is now the most popular website in the United States. However, other marketing organizations have yet to verify this data with their own studies–expect to see some variations when these are released.
With Facebook unveiling new features this year including Groups, Facebook Places and a new messaging system, one can only guess how far their popularity will take them.
If anything, this only goes to show that social media marketing must now be a serious option to look at when planning marketing campaigns. For companies and organizations that choose to use conventional avenues of advertising and marketing, it’s pretty safe to say that they’ll be left behind by this ongoing shift.
